چکیده

The fine structure of the nerve endings in the glabrous skin of the mole snout (Eimer's organ) were studied by light and electron microscopy. There are three types of nerve endings in the mole snout skin: free nerve endings, Merkel cells and encapsulated endings. 1. When nerve fibers enter the epidermis, they lose their myelin sheath. The basement membrane of the Schwann cell fuses with that of the epidermis. Some axons pass through the intercellular spaces between keratinocytes and terminate as the free nerve endings at the upper part of the stratum spinosum or the stratum granulosum. Expansions of the axons were often observed in the epidermis. Such expansions contain masses of mitochondria, large number of vesicles and neurofilaments. 2. Merkel cells are present near the basal portion of Eimer's organ. This cell is characterized by the presence of a number of moderately electron opaque granules ranging

Dynamic longitudinal investigation of individual nerve endings in the skin of anesthetized mice using in vivo two-photon microscopy.

Visualization of individual cutaneous nerve endings has previously relied on laborious procedures of tissue excision, fixation, sectioning and staining for light or electron microscopy. We present a method for non-invasive, longitudinal two-photon microscopy of single nerve endings within the skin of anesthetized transgenic mice. Besides excellent signal-to-background ratio and nanometer-scale ...

Fine structure of Eimer's organ in the coast mole (Scapanus orarius).

Eimer's organ is a small, densely innervated sensory structure found on the glabrous rhinarium of most talpid moles. This structure consists of an epidermal papilla containing a central circular column of cells associated with intraepidermal free nerve endings, Merkel cell neurite complexes, and lamellated corpuscles. The free nerve endings within the central cell column form a ring invested in...

Comparison of fine needle aspiration and direct skin smear in the diagnosis of acute cutaneous leishmaniasis: polymerase chain reaction as a reference method

Background: Accurate diagnosis of cutaneous leishmaniasis wouldavoid unnecessary treatment and scar formation. Direct smear isthe most common method for the diagnosis of this disease but itsnegative result could not rule out the infection; so, the need formore sensitive methods is obvious. We conducted this study tocompare the efficiency of direct skin smear with smears preparedby fine needle a...

Study of Median Palmar Cutaneous Nerve Involvement in a Patient with Wrist Ganglion

Background: Few reports represent palmar cutaneous nerve neuropathy in the wrist due to a ganglion cyst. Case Presentation: A 25-year-old female was presented with a mass at volar side of the wrist and hypoesthesia at the base of thenar eminence. At ulrasonographic examination, a simple cyst was detected. Sensory response of palmar cutaneous branch of median nerve was absent at the affec...
